This past April, the President issued Executive Order 13792 (Review of Designations Under the Antiquities Act) which puts national monuments under review for alternate uses that may include mining and natural resource extraction. I received notice yesterday that the public comment period for Executive Order 13792 has opened up. It appears the comment period for Bears Ears is 15 days only (one of the last two federal designations by President Obama). Looks like the President and his administration want to remove federal designation from this monument as quickly as possible. Comments relating to other national monuments are open through July 9.
